My REMAX office holds a weekly broker’s meeting. It’s where we discuss issues, trends, and other items of note that are taking place in the market.
At one meeting, one agent brought up the lack of effort by homeowners during showings. In other words, when she shows a home, it’s not ready to be shown. The homeowners trying to sell their homes aren’t really trying. The houses are cluttered and dark- turnoffs to buyers.
I haven’t found this to be too prevalent, but I understand how it happens. It’s tough living a normal life, keeping a schedule, working, and having your home in pristine condition everyday, any day for strangers to walk thru and judge. Unfortunately for homeowners, homes that show the best make the best impressions on buyers. And when you enter the market, especially in a buyer's market, you enter a beauty contest.
From Real Estate 101: If you know you have a showing, turn on the lights, open the blinds, clean up, and leave. Your home will show better and you’ll be helping yourself.
